Three Showa Housing Masterpieces

Thanks to all the people that attended the opening reception of the exhibition. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed a nice evening at the galleria abitare.

This exhibition introduces three works representative of housing architecture during the Showa period (1926-1989). The Sonoda House by J.Yoshimura (1955), the Kurata House by I. Yoshida (1955) and the New Maekawa House (1974) by K. Maekawa.

After been inhabited for more than 40 years, these houses retain the spirit of the Showa period and evidence the evolution of housing architecture in Japan. Through the presentation of photos, models as well as lectures and guided visits to the houses, the event aims to discuss the issues pertaining the conservation of housing architecture in Japan.

For illustration purposes, we post three recent exterior photos of the New Maekawa House taken by the photographer Saito Sadamu. The photos were taken after the facade and roof renovation works done in 2009. When compared to the model, it is easy to recognize the additions made to the house since its completion in 1974.

New Maekawa House model

The preparations for the exhibition are going on. Today we received the model for the New  Maekawa house at 1/100 scale. We are looking forward to receive the drawings and models of the other two projects.
